Electroplating sludge mainly comes from the solid waste generated by various electroplating waste liquids and electrolytic bath liquids of industrial electroplating plants after liquid phase chemical treatment. Due to the different production processes and treatment processes of electroplating manufacturers, the chemical composition of electroplating sludge is quite complex, mainly containing chromium, iron, nickel, copper, zinc and other heavy metal compounds and soluble salts. 

In China, electroplating wastewater is mainly treated by chemical methods. For some difficult-to-treat metal ions, some vulcanizing agents are used to precipitate them. During the treatment of electroplating wastewater, the heavy metal elements in electroplating wastewater will be transferred to the sludge. Electroplating sludge is the "end state" of electroplating industry wastewater treatment.

Therefore, all kinds of materials in electroplating sludge are complex, difficult to degrade, and very unstable in nature. It is a hazardous waste that focuses on and requires proper disposal.  

The main methods of electroplating sludge treatment include solidification treatment, thermal reaction treatment, recycling, landfill and composting treatment.
